Kilfinnan Road: pre-application screening

The Coire Glas project team is making preparations for the next stage in development of the Coire Glas hydro pumped storage scheme. This will include a planning application for the upgrading and realigning the Kilfinnan Road to allow safe transportation of staff, materials and equipment to the lower works during project construction, while ensuring improved access for residents and other road users.

The Kilfinnan Road realignment will require planning consent from The Highland Council (THC). The first step in this process is to request a screening opinion from THC, which the project team will undertake shortly. This will establish the level of environmental assessment work required to support the planning application.

Once the screening opinion has been received, work will commence on the planning application. The planning application will consider all aspects of the required work. Residents and business will have the opportunity at this point to comment on the proposal.

We expect to request this opinion before the end of May, with the subsequent planning application to be submitted in July or August.
